Salwa Boutoulout is from Marocco and she is at the end of her bachelor degree in “International Economic Relations” taught in English in University of National and World Economy. She shares her impressions from our specialty.

– You are about to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in „International Economic Relations“. What does it take to achieve excellent success in IER?

– To succeed in IER, I think curiosity and consistency are key. The program covers a wide range of topics such as economics, politics, and business. You have to stay open-minded and genuinely interested in how the world works. It also helps to be proactive: ask questions, join discussions, and connect with your peers and professors. I found that staying engaged made a huge difference.

– What was the biggest challenge during the education process?

– For me, the biggest challenge was juggling so many different subjects at once. Some semesters felt especially intense, and I often had to shift quickly from writing a policy analysis to studying economic models. It took time to find the right rhythm, but it definitely taught me how to manage pressure and stay organized.

– What was the most interesting and different thing about our specialty?

– What I loved most was how international and interdisciplinary the program is. It’s not just about theory. We discussed real-world events, debated global issues, and saw how everything connects. It made me feel like I wasn’t just studying for a degree, but really preparing to understand and contribute to the world around me.

– What qualities you developed during the training define as the most applicable and useful in practice?

– Definitely critical thinking, adaptability, and communication. IER taught me how to look at a problem from different perspectives, adjust to new situations quickly, and express my ideas clearly and confidently. These are skills I know I’ll carry with me into any career path I choose.

– What master’s degree will you continue with? If it is at our department – why did you decide to continue with us?

– Yes, I plan to continue with a master’s degree in the same department. The experience I’ve had so far has been really positive: supportive teachers, a rich academic environment, and subjects that genuinely interest me. I feel like staying here for my master’s will allow me to deepen my knowledge while continuing to grow in a place that already feels like home.

– What are your future professional expectations?

– In the future, I’d love to work with an international organization or a development-focused institution. I’m really passionate about global economic cooperation and policy, especially in ways that can help build more inclusive and sustainable economies. I want to be part of something meaningful that has real impact.

– Would you recommend the IER specialty to young people and why?

– Yes, absolutely! If you’re someone who enjoys understanding global issues, is curious about how countries and economies interact, and wants a versatile degree that opens many doors, IER is a great choice. It’s both intellectually stimulating and deeply relevant to today’s world.
